A Pause in the Routine, Cindy Dyson
Lunch on Broadway, 42" x 48" acrylic on canvas |
A Pause in the Routine
Selected works from October 1-31.
Many more works and artist in attendance October 14, from 7-9 pm.
My fascination with everyday street scenes reflects my hope and struggle to believe that the most beautiful moments in life are not always as expected. Perhaps these precious times are all at once – mundane and frenzied, fragile and strong, peaceful and painful, sunny and dark.
I work with acrylic paint and palette knives. I find that the endlessness to the variety of mark I can make with these tools challenges and fascinates me. I love the physicality and range of the knife – aggressive slices, delicate dabs, focused scrapes and thick bold swaths of colour. The paint is so flexible - I can spray, splatter, blob and pour it. These qualities enable me to express a wide range of emotion in each piece.
I am greatly influenced by the European Impressionists. Their sensitive offerings physically and emotionally connect me to their 19th century world. My application of paint does not result in realistic representation. Rather, I am satisfied with a rough familiarity and mood of subject. My goal is to present an intriguing balance of roughness and tenderness; boldness and vulnerability, representation and expression.

Poppy Series by Dale Turner in Brazil
Art from Pulse Gallery travels to Brazil.
Warrant Officer Stephanie Abdon and Riccardo Savone |
Warrant Officer, Stephanie Abdon presenting her gift, painted by Dale Turner, to Canadian Ambassador, Riccardo Savone in Brazil.
"When I was in Manitoba for my house hunting trip, I recently visited the Pulse Gallery at the Forks on Canada Day and came across one of your pieces that I admired. At that instant I decided to purchase your Poppy Series piece as I was looking for a work of art to give to the Canadian Embassy as a token of tremendous gratitude and appreciation of the support I received during my tenure as the Canadian Defence Attaché Assistant in Brazil."

We love to see your photographs of what happens with the art work once it leaves our gallery!
Thanks for the photos, Stephanie.

Bill Shoup
Bill Shoup at Culture Days 2013 |
We were so sorry to hear about the passing of one of our beloved artists, Bill Shoup last month. Every year during Culture Days Bill would come and demonstrate his clay sculpting techniques. His audience so loved to watch him sculpt and chat with him. One of his pieces that were so popular were his bears. Bill was a talented artist, a wonderful teacher and a lovely man. We will miss him greatly.

Glass works by Tatiana Gregoryanz
Music at The Forks |
The Forks Market |
Johnston Terminal |
The whimsical works of glass artist Tatiana Gregoryanz have been adorning the windows of Pulse Gallery for several years and her most recent creations are truly a delight to behold!
This latest series of glass panels are 33" high by 25" wide. Each stained glass panel depicts a different place, and the viewer is able to pick out exactly where each scene is here at The Forks. Each panel is created in the traditional stained glass manner. The images are painted on hand cut glass and then kiln fired so that the painting becomes a permanent part of the glass.
The glass that Tatiana used for the border is glass she salvaged from an antique window that she found here at the antique mall in Johnston Terminal.
We have many new works in the gallery right now. Drop by and see us to see all the new art in person!

Splash of Bold
We are very pleased to present Anne Siciliano this month as our guest artist. Anne comes to us from Northwestern Ontario.
Anne's first love is water colours which she started working
with in the mid 1990's. In early 2000 Anne started teaching art. Later, she discovered
mixed medium and acrylics which opened doors for her to become a much more
creative and experiential artist. Even
though Anne loves traditional painting her favorite is mixed medium with an
abstract flavor.
We will be showcasing selected works from April 1 to 30 with many more on display on April 29, from 7 to 9 pm at the artist reception. We hope to see you then!

Symphony of Art
Pulse Gallery presents "Symphony of Art"
We are featuring the works
of guest artist, Esther Hildebrand, from Feb 1 to 29, 2016
Abstract art is my magnet. It permits an incredible freedom of expression:
no restrictions for specific shapes or recognizable forms. Instead, it’s more
about color, energy, shapes, lines and balance. As such, my paintings are
open to interpretation and they invariably evoke a variety of feelings within
the viewer.
It is always in hindsight, that when I look at some of my paintings and
remember what space I was in at the time, that I begin to realize how much
the subconscious affects how I paint. There is a definite difference in the
light, the use of defined lines instead of curves, choices of color and so
many other aspects that reflect and expression of an inner self emerging.
