Cindy Dyson

Born in Winnipeg, Canada in 1968 Cindy remembers art always being an intimate part of her life.  A private girl, she was able to express many thoughts and feelings through her drawing.  As she matured, jobs and raising children demanded more of her time and art became a precious luxury.  In 2009 she graduated from the University of Manitoba with her bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in painting.  She continues to live in her birth city and supports the community by donating paintings to various organizations and she volunteers teaching art.

Cindy is fascinated with the moments which are taken for granted as ordinary and mundane.  Through her process of photography, sketching and palette knife acrylic painting, she finds beauty and insight in the common.  She paints expressively and quickly….often wet on wet…as fleeting as the moment she has witnessed.  The finished piece demands a much slower contemplation process, the initial impact is sudden but as the viewer looks closely, questions bubble up and details appear. The city-scape paintings that emerge from this process persuade the viewer and artist to contemplate a public space as a very personal mirror.

Cindy’s work is part of several private collections as well as The Manitoba Provincial Archives collection.  She has had the privilege of exhibiting in several group shows and solo shows. She was the recipient of the 2007 UMSU Scholarship Award.  Aesthetica Magazine, a UK based international Fine Arts publication awarded her with a commendation in the Creative Works Competition in 2010.
